Lawhorn, 90, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Friday, April 22, 2005, at the DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center. Born Feb. 1, 1915, in Swanwick, he was the son of James and Sadie (Coats) Lawhorn. He married Margaret Coleman on Jan. 1, 1942, in Waterman. Virgil was employed by Northern Illinois Gas Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of DeKalb Wesleyan Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of DeKalb; two children, Ronald Lee Lawhorn of DeKalb and Joyce Lynn (Bahne) Cornilsen of Houghton, Mich.; two grandchildren, Meghan (Jeremy) Jackson of Fort Drum, N.Y., and Joshua McDonald of Michigan; a great-grandson, Jacob Jackson; and a sister, Frieda Tubbs of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with the Rev. Ray E. Wahl of DeKalb Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
