    1. [S1225] "John Perry Malone," John Perry Malone. John Perry Malone, one of the oldest citizens of this county, fell over the culvert under the Frisco railroad, Monday night, August 12th, 1907, and was killed instantly. Mr. Malone had been downtown and had started to his home in south west Rolla, along tie railroad track, in company with Ernest Widner and Everett Webber. The two boys bad been at work in St. Louis and they bad come to Rolla and Mr. Malone was to take them to their homes in Spring Creek township the next morning. Widner and Mr. Malone were walking arm and arm, in crossing over the R.R. culvert, tbey went too close, too [sic] the edge and loosing [sic] their balance in the dark, both fell over, Mr. Malone falling on his head and was killed. Mr. Widner was considerably bruised. Coroner Bradley held an inquest over the body and the jury brought in a verdict of death by accident. John Perry Malone was born near Edgar Springs, in Phelps county, about sixty four years ago. He was a confederate soldier who served through the war. After the war he was united ia marriage with Miss Bell Rhea and of this union fourteen children were bom, six of who have died, the other eight with the mother still survive. They are Mrs. William Stafford, Mrs. Sam Brown, Mr. Edward Roberson [sic], Mrs. Reed, all of Phelps county; Mrs. John Fore of St. Louis and Misses Sallle, Etta and Beatrice Malone, of Rolla. Mr. Malone belonged to one of the oldest and most prominent families in this part of the state and his family connections are very large, among the number being bis nephew, Congressman Robert Lamar, of Texas county. His loss will be mourned by a host of relatives and friends. His remains were taken to the Smith graveyard, near Edgar Springs, on Wednesday for internment.
