A Prospect Hill Child Sustains Fatal Injuries
      ---
The Three-Year-Old Child of Carpenter Kobus the Tender Victim-
A Mother's Brave and Heroic Sacrifice.
      ---
A child was so horribly burned Thursday afternoon on Prospect Hill that it will probably die. The victim is the infant of Mr. & Mrs. John Kobus, residing on East Darwin Street. The three-year-old child was playing upon the floor with some matches which by some means fell into its possession. The matches ignited (with friction on the carpet, probably), and the clothes of the infant were set on fire.
The frightened screams of the child drew the attention of the mother who was in another room. When the mother reached her babe it was enveloped in flames but she made heroic efforts to save it from being burned alive. With frantic haste she literally tore the clothes from her child, being herself severely burned about the hands and wrists. In spite of the heroic efforts of Mrs. Kobus the child sustained such frightful burns that it will probably die. Its legs, abdomen, chest, arms and face were shockingly scorched and the flesh in some places, particularly the arms, was literally roasted to the bone.
Surgical attention was given immediately to the tender victim of its flames, but it is extremely doubtful if the sufferings end otherwise than in death.

The child of Mr. & Mrs. Kobus of Prospect Hill, whose terrible fate was told in yesterday's issue is dead. The dreadful burns inflicted proved fatal, as was predicted, and the little one's sufferings ended early yesterday morning.
