    • John Henson Collier died in snow slide in Colorado
      Rolla Herald Democrat, 27 June 1901, by Charles L. Woods.

      "John Collier buried under 50 feet of Snow"
      "The remains of John Collier arrived in Rolla last Saturday and were taken to Edgar Springs and buried that afternoon. Rev. Moneymaker conducting the services. John Collier went west nearly a year ago with Moses King and Lacy Grisham to seek his future. He went to the mining districts of Colorado. In a letter from Lacy Grisham regarding his death, he says 'John was located at Ouray Colorado. In the early part of January, he came up from Ouray to Camp Bird Mine where I was located, looking for a job and opening at the mine which had been promised to him.' He was caught under a snow slide and his body was not found until Tuesday, the 17th day of June 1901."
