    • WRIGHT, Judge Lewis F. and four of his sons taken from their home and murdered on the road between Rolla and Houston last Tuesday by militia under Col. Babcoke of Miller Co. Two sons had been in the the rebel army. A 5th son was left at home with his stepmother.[sic]

      [NOTE: A 5th son (out of 6 sons) and the stepmother was NOT left at home... the 5th son was Anthony K. Wright, who was the bushwacker whom Babcoke's posse was originally trying to capture. Anthony was in hiding at the time of the massacre. The stepmother, Mary (Kester) Wright, was riding some distance behind the Wright men when they were murdered. The 6th unmentioned son (Isaac N. Wright) was killed at the Battle of Pea Ridge in 1862.]

    • John Jackson was the administrator of the Lewis Wright estate. The 15 June 1867 deed records of St. Louis filed 19 August 1867, show that Anthony Wright and John Jackson met in St. Louis and finalized the land transaction for Lewis F. Wright's estate. The sum of $800 was given to Anthony Wright for his 1/5 share of all lands in the estate. Of Lewis Wright's children only one son, Anthony, and 3 daughters were left as heirs of the Lewis Wright estate. John Jackson came back from St. Louis and recorded the St. Louis transaction at the Phelps County courthouse. At his death Lewis Wright owned 1150 acres of land in Phelps County and 570 acres in Dent County.
