    • Squire Case and his wife Martha lived near Indianapolis, Indiana. When their three sons were young (James was 7, Joseph was 5 and John was 3), Squire and Martha both died of pneumonia in 1843 and left their three sons as orphans. James was adopted by Mr. Brown and lived near Nevada, Missouri. Joseph and John were adopted by Mr. Tinsley and lived in Rolla, Missouri.
